Where is your office?
What are your hours?
What are your fees?
My full fee for individual sessions is $150 for a 50- to 55-minute session.
I also have a limited number of spaces for clients I see on an “ability to pay” basis, which means they pay what they are able, as they are able. If you need to discuss a different payment, please just let me know.
Do you take insurance?
I take Blue Cross Blue Shield and Medicaid.
As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I am not eligible for Medicare (these bills have been stalled in Congress for years).
How do I get started?
The first step is to email, call, or text me. From there, we’ll set up a 30-minute phone consultation.
This phone call allows me to verify that I can help you with therapy… and lets you get to know a little bit about me before filling out any paperwork.
If we seem to be a “good fit” at the end of that call, I will email you a link to some documentation to complete to get started. And if you want, we can even schedule your first appointment.
With whom do you work?
I work with humans on planet Earth. I see adults, adolescents (usually 15 and up), couples, and families.
I work with negative emotions (anxiety, depression, anger) and people who have trouble feeling anything. I also specialize in working with trauma. And I help people who work as ‘helpers’ to bring their best selves to their work.
Are there any people or lifestyles you don’t work with?
No. I am committed to the ongoing work of recognizing my privilege and being the best therapist possible for whatever humans appear in front of me. I am a cisgender, straight, married woman who believes that every adult has a right to make the best choices for them.
I am also a PK (preacher’s kid, raised as a Methodist), so I’m equally comfortable and competent working with traditional Christians or others with more conservative beliefs. I wouldn’t say that I provide “Christian Counseling” (plenty of people offer that). But I definitely provide counseling for Christians, and I believe that I am uniquely suited to help you find a greater container for your Christianity than you might have at this time.
The only people I don’t work with are those whom I know I can’t help heal!
What do you do in sessions with clients?
I talk. I listen.
Sometimes I ask silly questions… questions like: “What is it like for you here on planet Earth?” or “How do you feel toward the part of you that ate those three donuts yesterday?”
Occasionally, I give suggestions, but only as something to consider… never as advice. I don’t feel I know what’s best for anyone. Instead, I guide you to listen more deeply to yourself.
I genuinely believe that to live a good life, each of us needs to find out who we are, and that’s not as easy as knowing what kind of ice cream we like!
Why do we hurt?
Humans experience pain when we misunderstand reality in some way. This happens when we believe things are true when they actually aren’t.
For instance, people with anxiety often believe something like: “I must be hypervigilant, standing guard at every moment of every day.” Of course, this effort is exhausting and painful – and it’s not something we can “stop” using willpower. Instead, we must be convinced that it’s in our best interest to stop standing guard in this way. Once we know we’re safer without the hypervigilance than with it, it’s a simple thing… no more difficult than removing our hand from a hot stove.
The journey from here to there is the hero’s journey. I invite you to take it.
Do you think about clients between sessions?
What brand of tissue do you provide?
I’m a fan of Kleenex Ultra Soft. I stay away from the lotion-style tissues – you know, the ones you can’t use to clean your glasses.
If you have a different preference, feel free to request it… or you can BYOT.
